Wine Notes: Casalone Mariposa Rosso

Region: Piedmont, Italy

Grapes: Brachetto (aka Braquet (French) and Borgogna (Lagne, Italy)

Taste: This wine so pretty! It smells of rose petals and berries. The wine is light to medium in body. The palate mirrors the nose (taste like it smells: blackberries, strawberries and rose petals). This wine is low alcohol. sweet, refreshing, with an effervescence.

Pairs with: Nice on it’s own. Try it with spicy meats, chocolate tart, or fresh ripe berries and cream.

When to Drink This: Serve it at every barbecue!

FYI: Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin) is a sweet red wine produced in Piedmont, Italy (Northwest). The area is in the Alessandria region that overlaps Asti.

The wine is produced by macerating* the must with the grape skins. The wine is aged for a two days, and should be consumed young. As the stories goes, Julius Caeser and Mark Anthony courted Cleopatra with Brachetto d’Acqui wine. Notes: * Maceration- a process in wine making where grape seeds and skin are soaked in the juice for an extended period of time. The result is more color, flavor, and tannic wine. *Must- is the freshly crushed grape juice containing skin and seeds.
